Introduction

Introduction

In this session, you will learn how to place polygonal openings. However, you can safely skip this step if you don't require such openings.

Work with Polygonal Openings

Polygonal Openings

ConVoid offers a range of polygonal openings, with 3 to 12 sides available in both horizontal and vertical orientations. Currently, these openings must be placed manually. However, once a polygonal opening is in place, and you run the automated process for creating and updating openings, ConVoid will exclude rectangular or circular openings within the polygon to avoid redundancy. Despite this, the polygonal openings will still receive all necessary information on reference and host elements.

Place Vertical Polygonal Openings

Vertical Openings

To manually place a vertical opening, follow these steps:

  1. Import the required vertical polygonal ConVoid family into your project. You will find the families in the ConVoid library.

  2. Switch to a Floor Plan or Ceiling Plan. Placing the polygonal opening in a Ceiling plan is a bit more challenging than a floor plan. In case you are working with a ceiling plan, ensure that the view range is set to the top surface of the floor. We also recommend hiding the floor category. This will enable you to select the points of the polygon.

  3. Grab the opening, select a Work Plane, and place the opening on it. Avoid placing vertical openings on a face, as this can cause issues.

  4. Place the points in a clockwise direction. If you need to make adjustments, select a point and move it to the right location. To select a point, hover over it and press the TAB key until it is highlighted. You can then grab the point and move it.

  5. You can also adjust the shadow symbol by moving the point at the center corner of the black region.

  6. Now, set the depth parameter according to the thickness of the floor.

  7. If you need to display a dashed symbol in the level beneath, simply set the parameter 'Offset Base Symbol' according to the level height.

Place Horizontal Polygonal Openings

Horizontal Openings

To manually place a horizontal opening, follow these steps:

  1. Import the required horizontal polygonal family into your project.

  2. Switch to a section view.

  3. Grab the family and pick the plane of the Host Element. Press the TAB key to select the plane.

  4. Place the points in a clockwise direction. If you have trouble aligning the polygon, we recommend using detail lines as a reference.

  5. Adjust the shadow symbol by moving the point at the center corner of the black region.

  6. Now, set the depth parameter according to the thickness of the wall.

  7. You can adjust the visibility of the symbols in a 2D view by altering the 'Offset Symbol Side' and 'Symbol Sides' parameters.
